Best time to visit

The best time to visit Ladakh is between June to September as the weather is relatively warmer, highways are open for road trips, and all major tourists spots like Pangong Tso are open for visitors.

Permits Required

As per government guidelines released in 2014, Indian tourists no more require permits to visit inner line areas like Pangong, Tsokar and Tso Moriri Lakes, Nubra Valley and Dha Hanu etc. Only photo identity proofs issued by the government of India (Passport, Driving License, Voter Id, PAN card etc.) will be required to visit these beautiful sites. However, if you are a foreign tourist, you will need to get permits for visiting these areas.

Road trip on Ladakh Packages

By Air: You can catch a flight from Delhi to Leh. Flights from Delhi operate daily to Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, which is one of the highest airports in the world. You will first have to fly to Delhi from Mumbai a night before in order to catch the flight from Delhi to Leh next morning.

By Road: There are two road routes to reach Leh.

  • Manali to Leh (NH3) : road trip to Leh from Manali is claimed to be one of the most beautiful road journeys in the world. For this you will first have to fly to either Delhi or Chandigarh from Bangalore.

  • Srinagar to Leh (NH 1D) : For this road journey to Leh through the beautiful valley of Kashmir, you will first have to fly to Srinagar from Bangalore.

  • While coming back from Leh, you can either take a road trip to Delhi or Chandigarh via Manali, or fly to Delhi and then catch your flight back to Bangalore from there.

    However, both these highways get closed in winters due to heavy snowfall.

    • Pangong Tso: : This is the most beautiful lake in Ladakh. The sight of its crystal clear water surrounded by mountains is totally mesmerising for each soul that visits the place.
    • Nubra Valley: This tri-armed valley which is a desert replete with sand dunes, separates the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges. This valley is also famous for its double humped Bactrian Camels.
    • Lamayuru: Lamayuru, situated on the Kargil-Leh highway, is famous for its Lunar or Moon like landscape. It is popular for its 11th century Lamayuru monastery that is one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh.
    • Hemis:Hemis is known for the Hemis National Park, which is home to the endangered Snow Leopard apart from other animals like Ibex, Marmots etc. It is situated only 40 km from Leh and famous for the Hemis Monastery and its Hemis festival that sees a host of masked dancers.
    • Alchi: Situated on the bank of the Indus River, Alchi is a small village in Leh district and is famous for the Alchi monastery that has beautiful wall paintings.
    • Nimoo:This is where the rivers Indus and Zanskar meet; also called ‘Sangam’.
    • Hall of Fame:‘The Hall of Fame’ displays the stories of bravery of the Indian soldiers who lost their lives in the Indo-Pak wars. It also has a museum that exhibits the culture, art, flora and fauna of Kashmir.
    • Magnetic Hill: The Magnetic Hill pulls cars up the hill with its magnetic properties.

    Booking the Flight

    Reach Delhi a night before the morning you are supposed to catch your flight to Leh.

    For flying back to Bangalore from Delhi, book a flight late in the evening or night, to avoid any inconvenience in case your flight from Leh to Delhi gets delayed due to Ladakh’s weather problems.
